5 MINUTE FIRE EVACUATION
SPLIT To-Do list among Family members. Stay together. Stay calm.

ITEMS TO COLLECT

  1. Grab And Go bags [If none, collect water, flashlights, some food items]
  2. Pets with carriers, leases & pet go-bags
  3. Cell phone w/ charger
  4. Important Phone numbers (buddies, out of state contacts, emergency numbers)
  5. Glasses/ hearing aids/ medications
  6. ID and cash
  7. Computer backup / laptop
  8. “Important documents” file

PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

  1. Cotton clothes that cover your body
  2. Solid shoes
  3. Gather head covering, leather gloves, scarf to cover mouth

AS TIME PERMITS

CALL NEIGHBORHOOD BUDDIES

  1. Make sure they are alerted to the situation
  2. If they physically need help getting out, help if you are not endangered

COLLECT IRREPLACABLE ITEMS

  1. Very helpful if they have been listed by room in order of importance
  2. If you have no Grab And Go bags, collect extra clothing and shoes

MAKE YOUR HOUSE SAFER

  1. close all windows and interior and exterior doors
  2. open all curtains and blinds
  3. move furniture away from windows, into center of rooms
  4. move outdoor flammable items (including welcome mats) away from house
  5. turn on all house lights
  6. open fireplace dampers and close fire screens
  7. turn the a/c or heat off
  8. check that all hoses are connected with gun nozzles
  9. foam or gel house, trees, wooden decks, exposed eaves, etc.
  10. place signage directing firefighters to any water sources on property (pool, spa, storage tanks)

LEAVE

ONCE OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD

  1. If safe and necessary, meet at family pre-decided meeting location
  2. Notify out-of-state contacts of your situation
  3. Change outgoing voicemail message telling people where they can reach you
