FREE CERT training – Community Emergency Preparedness Team
The City of Malibu has an Emergency Services Coordinator, Brad Davis, who establishes plans for the city’s response to disasters, equips Emergency Operations Centers, manages the city’s emergency notification systems, and provides CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training to city staff and volunteers.
CERT Training is standardized nationally so that in the event of a disaster, citizen volunteers who were trained in another city could plug in to help and everyone will understand the same jargon and the same chain of command protocols, (the same jargon and protocols used by the fire department) and be able to work together efficiently.
CERT Training is about what to do before the fire department or sheriff arrive on the scene, such as if our neighborhood is cut off from outside help or if a widespread disaster leaves us without emergency responders. CERT classes include training on small fire suppression, medical training, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster psychology and terrorism. If you are interested in the City of Malibu’s free CERT training, contact Brad Davis at (310) 456-2489 extension 260 or at
