Buddy System

Have 2 or 3 buddies who you agree to check in on if disaster strikes.   It could be beneficial to have a buddy whose property is not so close that you are likely to face the identical fire threat at the same time.

1.  Tell them where your pet leashes and carriers are, if you want someone to evacuate your pets when you aren't home.   [Once pets are safely evacuated, a sign on the door should indicate this so that others don’t risk their safety searching for your pets.]

2.  Plan to check in on each other if there is a fire in the area, or an evacuation warning, or after an EQ or other disaster.

3.  Show each other your utility shut off locations, if you want to do this for each other after an EQ, or in the event of a broken water pipe etc, when one of you is not home

4.  Let each other know if you or family members have special needs or disabilities that you need help with in an emergency.

5.  Give a key to each other if you want the other to enter your home to evacuate kids, pets, or special items.
